ABOUT ANCHORAGE
PHOTOGRAPHY
GROUP
Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Anchorage.

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Anchorage Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

I learned alot walking around looking for ways to compose night time street photos. I was greeted warmly and given a sheet to give me pointers on composing my shots. Would recommend this class to those looking to improve their night time pics. It was also neat watching the fireworks and trying to shoot them.

Title or Location: Home is where the fog lies
The dog in the photo was a foster named Dora that I was preparing to find a forever home for. She is an Akita who survived many odds that were against her, and ultimately we were reunited before her story was about to end. This photo was taken on a foggy night outside my house just a few weeks before she was adopted, and was one of our last moments like this. She had lost most of her fur, but this photo, I feel captured how beautiful of a dog she really is, and her likeness, despite none of her

Title or Location: Denali State Park
This was taken during the opening week of Denali. It was our first time visiting and my first day truly using my new camera. It is a 2011 Pentax Q, and I took this shot using it's monochrome setting. I've just been getting back into photography and this quirky little camera just captures scenes so well for how they are.

Hello! I just started my photography journey, and what better model do I have than my wonderful aussie, Rowan. This photo was taken on the Chester Creek trail near Goose Lake, with the mossy spruce trees making a perfect backdrop. Hope you enjoy!

This little guy is a resident at the Sea Life Center in Seward! He was more than happy to pose for the camera and keep my friends and I company (before his keepers came in with fishy snacks)!

March 29, 2026, at Point Woronzof Park in Anchorage, Alaska. I spent golden hour here watching the sun drop behind Mount Spurr over Cook Inlet. The light was hazy and warm, but the wind off the sea ice made sure you knew spring hadn't arrived quite yet.

Title or Location: Common Tern with a just caught fish to feed its chicks. C. Sam. Smith Park
I was looking for Whimbrels, or other migratory shore birds when I spotted this common tern flying around. At some point it dove and caught a fish. I instinctively aimed my camera and took a few pictures before flying away.

Steam was really enshrouding the main pool of Grand Prismatic, so I looked for other compelling ways to capture images. This image features some of the sinter terraces and cooler water thermophiles thriving around the central pool perimeter.

This is at the end of a 3.5 mile hike, with no trail, after you have a limited availability permit. Took me 5 years to get it. It is better to be there late morning to mid afternoon so the formation is fully illuminated.
