ABOUT ANCHORAGE
PHOTOGRAPHY
GROUP
Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Anchorage.

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Anchorage Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

Excellent. Jason took the time to ask me what I wanted to learn and accomplish at or event. He more than accomplished that. He spent time with each person at the session to help and answer their individual needs.

It totally worked for my kind of learning. Jason was attentive and willing to teach with all of us at different levels. He was also very knowledgeable about cameras, camera equipment and how all our different cameras worked. I would definitely take another class with him and would recommend to others.

I enjoyed it. It was my first time with a group and wasn't sure what to expect. Jason worked with everyone and their needs. He also explained about the shots we were talking.

It was very nice to get out and meet other photographers and spend time shooting. The wind made it a bit more of a challenge but overall I had a great time

Jason was extremely knowledgeable and flexible. Very willing to reschedule class due to terrible conditions. And was also willing to have a cup of coffee with us to go over some basics! Excellent teacher! I look forward to the make-up class.

    PHOTOGRAPHERS
    Jason Larson
Jason Larson is a nature photographer with an emphasis on wildlife photography. He has spent countless hours in the rainy Washington weather patiently waiting for the animal to move into frame. He recently made the move to Alaska with his partner and has been blown away by the incredible scenery and vistas, especially so close to Anchorage. He spends most of his free time exploring and looking for animals to shoot. He is looking forward to meeting like-minded photographers with the same passion for the craft.

After successfully summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro, I decided to rest and relax via a multi day safari. Here in Tarangire National Park, there are many homes for elephants and their packs. I was able to catch many by watering whole cooling off as well as many other animals!

The North America Nebula derives it's name from it's resemblance to the continental United States, Mexico, and the Gulf of Mexico. The nebula is about 2,600 Light years away in the constellation Cygnus, visible during the summer and fall. On this dewy, fresh morning something compelled me to grab my camera and take a picture as sandhill cranes strolling gracefully through the front yard. Harriet pictured here is, as always, accompanied by Ozzie and their offspring of the season. They have been welcomed morning coffee mates for the last 12 years. The picture captures the calm presence and the dancer's restlessness of these beautiful visitors.

The Great Reno Balloon Race was this weekend. About a dozen balloon are up and aglow before dawn. This beautiful one was my favorite. Most shooting were using auto white balance, cloudy, or 5600K to keep the yellow cast from the flame. I prefer a white balance which retains the true colors of the balloons, especially for this balloon.
